Chapter 1
The first time I met Hancock still stuck out in my mind, it was the first time I had visited Good Neighbor and there was a guy harassing me. Hancock took care of him immediately, which saved me the trouble. He introduced himself as the major, and told me to let him know if I need anything. He wasn't the most beautiful guy I've ever met, nor the most handsom. Okay so maybe he wasn't good looking at all, but he wasn't too bad for a ghoul. There was just something mesmerizing about him that I just couldn't put my finger on, maybe it was his personality, the bad boy with a cause or the chems making him a bit loopy. The only thing I knew for sure was I wanted to talk to him more, get to know him. He seemed like a valuable asset to my team, I wanted him as a companion. His joking demeanor could almost make somebody forget about his appearance and focus on the real man before them. My current companion, Nick, always seems so busy with his detective cases and Dogmeat was too much of a free spirit, but of course the mayor of a town wouldn't have the time of day for somebody like me. To him I was probably just a wanderer, here to get supplies, maybe do a few quests and be on my way. I meant nothing to him, just like all of the other people who come and go from the town. He probably wouldn't give a level twenty in combat the time of day anyway. Maybe I should just go take on a few more quests and level up before I try to talk with him more. A mayor would have no use for somebody as low level as myself. Perhaps Nick has a few quests he would like me to do. I could ask around town to see if anybody needed help. There always seemed to be at least one person in each town or settlement that had the smallest quest they wanted me to do, it wouldn't annoy me if I didn't have to do the same quest over and over again. That's when I met a ghoul named Bobby, who needed help with a quest, but didn't want any questions asked. At the time I didn't know what I was getting myself into, she promised me caps, which I needed to buy more stimpaks, my stash was getting dangerously low. I was under the impression I wouldn't have to kill anybody, so the quest couldn't be too bad. Clear out a few Mirelurks, big deal I needed the experience, and the loot that came with it wasn't a bad deal. It wasn't until after I was invited in and told more details that I knew I'd be joining her to bail out a friend from jail in Diamond City. I don't usually do this sort of thing so it came as a shock, and Nick didn't seem to like it either. What have I gotten myself into?
Chapter 2.
They called her Bobby no nose, and I could see why. As a ghoul she had been eroded by all of the rads she was exposed to. She had a plan to bust her buddy out of jail in Diamond City, which wouldn't be easy. I guess that's why she needed me to take care of the guards so to speak. I don't usually do this kind of stuff, but she said it's for a good a good cause. I'm not sure if I completely believed her, but I helped bust her friend out anyway. She had a plan that she needed her friend to accomplish, some kind of robbery to earn enough caps to live the good life. She asks me to take care of the Mirelurks and assist them in that journery. Nick didn't like this plan at all, and I myself wasn't too sure about it, but I suppose I needed to finish the quest. It honestly didn't seem like a noble quest in my opinion but I still agreed to tag along. Bobby's friend had this robot that would bust through walls, he called her Sonya, and they used her to smash their way through the tunnel. We eventually ended up in some kind of storage area that had weapons. Something about this didn't make sense, these were weapons, not caps. I wasn't told anything about weapons, yeah sure weapons are nice and they are worth caps, but this wasn't what I was expecting. The guard asked if we were stupid breaking into Hancock's personal armory. Hancock's armory! I didn't agree to this! The guard gave us an ultimatum, either leave or be killed. I believed I could take her, but I didn't want to get involved with this, think what Hancock would think of me knowing I'm the one who broke into his armory and killed his guard. Bobby wasn't backing down though, it seemed like I had an option. Either kill the guard or kill her, but maybe there is a chance I could convince her to just leave. There wasn't much chance, but out of some luck and my high charisma I believe, I was able to convince her to leave. The guard told us we made the right decision, and recommends I go talk to Hancock himself. See if we are okay, after all if you make the mayor of the town mad, you most likely wouldn't be invited back to the town, especially since there are neighborhood watchman. Trust me the least thing I wanted to do is anger Hancock, but at this point I didn't want to talk to him about accidently breaking into his armory, it wasn't my entention to steal from him, but I could see how he would view the situation differently. I trudged my way into his huge house, it needed a little bit off work, but I'm pretty sure it was a historic house and honestly any house that survived the nuclear fallout looked that way. I mean it looked pretty good compared to some houses, and it was big. I wouldn't say mansion big, but it was more than enough for at least a dozen people to live comfortably. Inside there were a lot more people than I thought there would be. Most of them were ghouls, and there were chems laying around. I knew Hancock was addicted to chems, but I couldn't imagine all of these chems just laying around. There were so many rooms in the house, and such a big stair case! It took a little bit to find Hancock. He was upstairs. But what would I say to him? Hey sorry I accidently broke into your armory forgive me? That would just be stupid. Maybe I should rethink talking to him. He would never want to be my companion now, no way after I broke into his armory. At least nobody got killed, he might forgive me. I guess I should just get over my fear and talk to him.
Chapter 3
"Hancock." I sputtered out, sounding more confident than I really am feeling at the moment. I'm hoping with the amount of charisma I have he might not be able to see how nervous I actually am.
"So you're the one that broke into my armory." He responded. At this point I still couldn't read his expression, and being a ghoul didn't make it any easier.
I wonder how old Hancock is, ghouls can live for a really long time, with some major drawbacks. I talked to a ghoul down in the pawnshop here in Goodneighbor that had been alive for over two hundred years. She had lost all of her family and seemed like she didn't even have the will to live anymore. I understand her feeling. I lost my husband and have yet to find my precious little boy.
"Yes. I did, but I wasn't honestly told I would be breaking into something that you owned. I was told...other pretenses." It was difficult to think of the right words. After all, I could be making powerful enemies really quickly. Here in the wasteland is the worst place to do so.
He took a moment then responded, "It's all good just an honest mistake."
Wait that's it? Why's he letting me off so easy?
"So wait. We're good?" I asked a little bewildered.
"Yup." He responded. I guess that's the end of that conversation.
I started to leave, but then for some reason found some courage and went back over to him. "Hey Hancock."
"What's up?"
"How are you doing?" I threw out before I knew what I was saying. Why would I ask that?
He looked at me a little bewildered at first, like he was surprised I had asked him that and finally responded, "This isn't honestly what I pictured when I took over the title of major. I feel like I need a little break from Goodneighbor."
Is he saying what I think he is?
Chapter 4
Hancock looked me straight in the eyes. He didn't have a beautiful face, but his smile was something else. I knew he was on chems, but that didn't make a difference, if anything it made him funnier to be around.
"Things around here are getting kind of boring. I feel like I need to get away from it all ya know?" Honestly I knew exactly how he felt, sometimes I wish I could just get away from it all. Go back home before the nuclear fallout and pick up my baby boy. Go back to the arms of my husband. I miss him, but for Shaun's sake I have to keep moving forward. I will find him!
"So when are we leaving then?" I asked with a sly smile on my face. Basically I didn't give Hancock an option to say no.
He returned the same sly smile and answered, "We can leave right after I tell the good citizens of Goodneighbor. Follow me to the balcony." He turned and headed toward the balcony. I quickly followed him curious as to what he would say to the citizens. I wonder if they'll be upset that their leader is leaving, though they don't exactly seem like the emotional type of people. Bitter maybe, emotional crying type no.
"Attention people of Goodneighbor!" Hancock projected as the citizens started to flock close to the balcony to listen to their mayor. "Starting today I will no longer be in Goodneighbor permanently." There were some awwwws in the croud. These people would miss their mayor. "I will still continue being the mayor of this good town! Come on let's get going." He turned to me, and without hesitation we were on the road.
"Where to first?" He asked turning to face me.
Strongly, I looked him straight in the eyes. "I want to find my baby Shaun. He was taken from me."
At first Hancock looked a little shocked but finally continued to say, "I never knew. I'm sorry you had to go through that, no mother should ever have to go through something like that. Wherever you need to go I've got your back." His face broke out into a sly grin. "And I've got plenty of chems if you need them."
"Thanks Hancock. For now we're just going to head back to Sanctuary and get some rest. Maybe restock on my supply." I stopped to think for a second. "I wonder how my little Dogmeat is doing. I know he likes to wonder, but I thought he would be safer there."
He looked perplexed. "Dogmeat? What's a Dogmeat?"
I laughed. To somebody who didn't know Dogmeat I guess the name is a bit funny. "Dogmeat is a German Shepard dog that somehow found his way to me. He's a bit of a free spirit I guess. Come on! I'll introduce you to him!"
"Only if I get a chem break first!" Hancock laughed, as we started our adventure back to Sanctuary.
